KACAPI

Kacapi is a zither-like Sundanese musical instrument played as the main accompanying instrument in the Tembang Sunda or Mamaos Cianjuran, kacapi suling (tembang Sunda without vocal accompaniment) genre (called kecapi seruling in Indonesian), pantun stories recitation or an additional instrument in Gamelan Degung performance. Word kacapi in Sundanese also refers to santol tree, from which initially the wood is believed to be used for building the zither instrument.
Kacapi and recitation of pantun stories
It is not certain how long the kacapi has been used to accompany the recitation of pantun stories. In the Sundanese dictionary published by the Lembaga Basa & Sastra Sunda (1976) the primary meaning of the word pantun is given as kacapi.
It is played by a band consisting of one or two kecapis (zithers), one suling (flute) and occasionally a set of kendangs (drums). It is essentially Tembang Cianjuran without vocalist, sharing the repertoire and playing techniques.
Maybe Kacapi only famous in the western Java and the people loves music who know about it. Perhaps many people who do not know about this instrument. So, we as young people should be able to introduce a musical instrument in the world, that many Indonesian traditional musical instrument are unique.

SAMAN DANCE

The Saman dance is part of the art dance of the Gayo people of Aceh province in Sumatra. Boys and young men perform the Saman sitting on their heels or kneeling in tight rows. Each wears a black costume embroidered with colourful Gayo motifs symbolizing nature and noble values. The leader sits in the middle of the row and leads the singing of verses, mostly in the Gayo language. These offer guidance and can be religious, romantic or humorous in tone. Dancers clap their hands, slap their chests, thighs and the ground, click their fingers, and sway and twist their bodies and heads in time with the shifting rhythm – in unison or alternating with the moves of opposing dancers. These movements symbolize the daily lives of the Gayo people and their natural environment. The Saman is performed to celebrate national and religious holidays, cementing relationships between village groups who invite each other for performances.
Saman dance is very popular in Indonesia. This dance is quite difficult to study because the movement is very fast. This dance is also often dimaikan by dancers who wear hijab, because Aceh is a famous Moslem-dominated province.
